Aggregator Open Energi signs 2MW demand response deal with Hanson

West Drayton asphaltDemand response aggregator Open Energi has signed a deal with construction firm Hanson that will enable the outfit to deliver around 2MW of frequency response to help balance the national power system.

The company is now halfway through a phased rollout with technology installed on bitumen tanks at 14 of 29 sites.

As well as getting paid to balance the grid, Hanson gets more granular data on its equipment performance, meaning it can dive further revenue from operational efficiencies and improved maintenance regimes.

David Weeks, a director at Hanson, said the rollout was “an important part of our drive to embed energy improvements across the business and is helping to build the smarter, more responsive energy system the UK needs to support our transition to a low carbon economy.”

Chris Kimmett, commercial manager at Open Energi said the aggregator was “delighted to be working with Hanson UK to help it adopt a smarter approach to energy management.”
