Bentley Motors has installed a 2.7MW solar carport at its Crew headquarters. Carport specialist FlexiSolar believes it is the largest of its kind in the UK.
Bentley hopes it will reduce its carbon footprint by 3,300 tonnes a year, depending on light levels and output.
Work started on the project in April 2018. It is being financed by a PPA and takes Bentley’s installed capacity to 7.7MW, following a rooftop installation in 2013.
The company said completing the project means that means that all the electricity used to manufacture every Bentley is solar or certified green. The achievement comes as Bentley turns 100 years old, said Peter Bosch, Bentley’s Member of the Board for Manufacturing.
“It’s important to look ahead and prepare the business for the next 100 years by investing significantly in our products, our people and our site infrastructure. This includes new initiatives that reinforce our commitment to the environment.
