BT shaved a further £29m from its energy bill in the year to 31 March. The telco also cut worldwide CO2 equivalent emissions by 8.9%.
BT’s annual report states it has made cumulative energy cost savings of around £250m since 2009/10.
Despite cutting overall energy consumption by 1.7% in 2017/18, the firm spent around £370m on energy and fuel versus £341m the prior year.
BT said it will accelerate plans to cut emissions from transport and has added more plug-in hybrid vehicles to its fleet.
The company plans to further decarbonise its estate through IoT technologies, as outlined at last month’s Energyst Event by BT head of procurement for property, FM, power & cooling and utilities, Rob Williams.
Emissions from BT’s supply chain also fell 6.3% during the year, according to the report.
Meanwhile, 82% of BT’s UK electricity, and 81% of power used globally, came from renewable contracts, up from 78% and 77% respectively last year.
Where markets allow, the firm plans to source all power from renewable sources by 2020.
