The amount of power to be procured via the capacity market for next winter is set to be cut by almost a fifth, from 6GW to 4.9GW.

National Grid, which runs the CM on behalf of government as the EMR Delivery Body, also recommended slightly reducing the volume requirement for the longer term (T-4) auction, for delivery in winter 2021/22 by 600MW.

The Delivery Body said it may again adjust targets ahead of the auctions, which start on 30 Jan (T-1) and 6 February (T-4), dependent upon appeals following CM prequalification results.
