Turbine-maker-in-a-spin Siemens Gamesa has appointed Tim Dawidowsky as its new chief operating officer.

The Hispano-German combine last month hired new CEO Jochen Eickholt in a bid to reverse recent setbacks arising from fractured supply chains and cost over-runs.

Internal pick Dawidowsky, a 28-year veteran of the engineering giant, joined the board of its turbine-making division two years ago.  His most recent job has been ensuring project excellence at Siemens Energy.

Dawidowsky’s career include leading positions in service, supply chain management and manufacturing, as well as a number of overseas CEO roles.

“Tim has the ideal blend of skills and experience for this role in Siemens Gamesa”. said Eickholt.

“He has a proven track record of effecting successful turnarounds in businesses operating in complex circumstances like those we are facing.  His expertise will be very important for us given the huge challenges we face in that area right now.

“This is a critical appointment for Siemens Gamesa and I am pleased we have been able to attract such a high-calibre executive.”

In four years heading Siemens’ Large Drives division, Dawidowsky returned the business to profitability.

The graduate of Berlin Technical University said he anticipated applying his experience in project management  in his new role.

“The wind energy industry is a vital element in the energy transition and the battle against climate change. At the moment the manufacturing sector is facing a perfect storm of issues that are threatening its progress,” he observed.

“I am really excited about joining this challenge and helping to solve these issues and return Siemens Gamesa to leadership in this industry.”

Siemens Gamesa says it has installed more than 120 GW of wind generation worldwide.
