Car maker Stellantis, manufacturer of brands including Citroën, Fiat, Jeep, Alfa Romeo and Peugeot, has signed a deal to provide extended charging for its EV models with Octopus Energy’s 100% renewably sourced electricity.

Six of Stellantis’ marques – the five above, plus DS Automobiles – will be offered access to the power retailer’s EV bundle.  This includes Intelligent Octopus, the UK firm’s smart EV tariff, which prioritises cheaper charging overnight, and the Ohme wall-mounted home charger.

Access to the 330,000 Europe-wide claimed public charging points of Octopus’ Electric Universe network further sweetens the dish.  New Octopus customers will be offered an additional perk of an initial £25 off their bill.

The offer will also be available to existing Octopus Energy customers who have already purchased an EV from one of the participating Stellantis brands.

The partnership builds on Octopus’ recent partnership with Vauxhall, amongst other brands, as Octopus continues efforts to position itself as the energy supplier of choice for electric car manufacturers.

Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, chief product officer at Octopus Energy, said: “Transport still accounts for a massive chunk of global emissions, so switching away from old school petrol and diesel cars will be crucial for reaching Net Zero.

“Going electric is a win-win-win: cleaning up the air we breathe, decarbonising our roads and putting money back in people’s pockets. We are over the moon to be partnering with Stellantis to help make the process of going green as smooth as possible for their customers.”

Stellantis UK’s managing director Paul Willcox welcomed the deal.

“Our partnership with Octopus Energy allows us to offer EV customers greater support and services to enjoy the freedom of driving an EV at home and on the road”, said Willcox. “We’re pleased to be continuing to provide drivers with access to charging in an affordable, efficient, and environmentally beneficial way, with added ease.”

Launched in June 2018, the power provider’s ‘Octopus Go’ tariff was the UK’s first ‘time of use’ tariff designed specifically for EV owners, offering four hours of cheap green electricity every night.

‘Intelligent Octopus’ goes two steps further, extending the night-time rate to six hours instead of four, and introducing the UK’s first time-optimised power downloading for EVs, scheduled to boost car batteries at the very greenest, cheapest times.

The partnership with Stellantis’ participating brands began earlier this month. More information can be obtained on the webpages of participating brands, including Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat and DS.
