Turbine-maker Vestas today said it has secured a 29MW order from Ørsted for the Danes’ Lisheen 3 project in County Tipperary, central southern Ireland.
The Danes’ order covers supply, installation, and servicing of eight 3.45MW turbines, each ramped up to 3.6MW operation.
It will be the third phase of Vestas-supplied wind parks at the location, following the 36MW Lisheen and the 24MW Lisheen extension projects.
Three months ago the Danish energy developers announced their debut in Irish onshore generation, paying put €571 million (£496 million) for the 389MW Irish and British onshore assets of Brookfield Renewables.
Included in Ørsted’s purchase of the Irish-incorporated entity, were a further 149MW of farms in ‘advanced development’, plus a pipeline of onshore potential agreed by buyer and seller at around 1GW.
Vestas will service the Lisheen turbines via a 20-year Active Output Management agreement. The AOM is intended to guarantee the park’s operator certainty in generation performance throughout the project’s lifetime.
The order marks the first onshore wind project for which Vestas will supply turbines to Ørsted, in Ireland and in Europe.

Deliveries are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2022, while park commissioning is expected for the final quarter of 2022.
