Telco O2 has pledged net zero emissions from its operations within five years. The firm said it will also pressure suppliers to cut emissions by 30 per cent.
It said major part of its plan is to switch third party landlords – i.e. phone shop owners – to renewable energy (though it probably means renewable power).
The company said it already uses renewable energy at its own sites and operations.
The telco will work with the wider Telefónica group to make suppliers cut emissions by 30 per cent by 2025.
Telefónica last year cut its CO2 emissions by 18 per cent in the last year and has halved them in four years. O2’s move suggests the group is confident of continuing that trajectory.
Digital infrastructure minister said move “shows real leadership … I hope it inspires other firms to follow suit.”
