One week to have your say on EU’s Energy Efficiency targets

European CommissionA consultation on the future of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive closes this week. The Commission seeks views on how to increase energy efficiency across the bloc.

The consultation focuses on areas including new energy efficiency targets, financing and funding, energy efficiency obligation schemes (under which Esos falls), metering and billing, reporting and monitoring and public procurement of energy efficient goods and services.

The Commission wants both expert and layman opinions and has issued a two stage consultation document.

It wants to know which elements of the Energy Efficiency Directive have been effective and hopes to identify the most suitable policy options to frame energy efficiency as an energy source in its own right. The Commission wants to achieve a 30% reduction in energy use across the bloc by 2030.
