Following completion of a fully compliant OJEU procurement project which commenced in January 2014, the process has begun to migrate The Energy Consortium’s (TEC) flexibly procured energy portfolio to newly appointed suppliers for Natural Gas (Lot 1) Electricity (Lot 2) and for a single source, fixed price arrangement for the smaller but very numerous (>3,000 meters) Non-half Hourly Electricity supplies for TEC members (Lot 3).

TEC can report that, following receipt of 15 bids, that Corona Energy have been awarded (subject to contract) the framework for Lot 1, EDF Energy for Lot 2 and Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) Lot 3. The significant numbers of Gas and Electricity supplies in the TEC portfolio will be transferred to the new supply arrangements on 1st October 2016. This will facilitate the delivery of the forward energy already secured through TEC’s carefully managed forward purchase strategy.

Richard Murphy, TEC’s Managing Director said “The successful contract awards of these three lots are testament to the time and effort spent by the TEC team on preparing a specification to deliver the best energy supply solutions to our Members who also own us. We have secured frameworks with three significant suppliers following the evaluation of their bids by TEC staff and members, and against stiff competition. We can be confident that our Members can expect the very best of service from three suppliers with a strong track record of delivering energy to the Public Sector”.

Neil Mitchell, Head of Corporate Business for Corona Energy said: “The Invitation to Tender for The Energy Consortium was a thorough and wide reaching specification which challenged the status quo of service delivery expectations against a requirement for a supplier margin reflecting the significant portfolio on offer. We are delighted to have been selected to supply this significant contract and we’re looking forward to building a partnership and supporting this comprehensive framework with an exceptional customer experience.”

Béatrice Bigois, Managing Director of Customers EDF Energy commented “This is a fantastic win for EDF Energy that further cements our position as the UK’s largest supplier of electricity to the public sector. We’re delighted that TEC have chosen us based on the great value and service we can offer their members.”

A not for profit, member-owned group, TEC manages annual energy contracts worth over £180 million.
