Scottish Power Energy Networks joins Piclo DNO flexibility platform

Johnston: More to come

Scottish Power Energy Networks has signed up to the Picloflex platform, which aims to be the UK marketplace for distribution network operator (DNO) flexibility.

The DNO follows Northern Powergrid (announced yesterday), UK Power Networks, Scottish & Southern Energy Networks and Electricity North West onto the platform. Western Power Distribution is currently taking its own approach to flex procurement.

Speaking at the Energyst’s DSR Event this morning (13 September), Piclo CEO, James Johnston, said the shift from DNO to distribution system operator (DSO) models creates a need for a common procurement platform to match buyers of flexibility with those that have flexibility to sell in the right place at the right time.

“DSOs joining the fray becomes daunting for participants, given the increasing number of interactions/parties. Hence the need for common platform,” he said. “Our aim is to create a single place to access all DSO flex in the UK.”

Johnston said the company would make further announcements “in the coming weeks”.
