Keadby: 735MW back online from 9 November.

SSE has confirmed that its 735MW Keadby gas-fired power station will be back online for winter. The plant had been mothballed since 2013 but last year secured a contract in the capacity auction for winter 2018/19.

The announcement comes as the UK faces tighter than usual winter supply margins. National Grid reiterated last week that the margin this winter is 1.2%, although reserve measures take that to 5.1%.

Paul Smith, SSE managing director generation, said: “Today’s news means Government and the National Grid have more capacity with which to power people’s homes this winter. The station has undergone extensive upgrades meaning it can operate with improved flexibility in the market.”

The station will be back online by 9 November.
