Tesco goes large on direct PPAs and onsite solar

Tesco is to buy power from five new onshore wind farms and a solar farm and has announced plans for a significant ramp-up of onsite PV.

The retailer will buy from the generators via power purchase agreements for output directly from onshore wind farms including EDF’s Burnfoot East, BayWare’s Inverclyde and Scottish Power’s Halsary schemes.

Tesco said it will also install solar PV across 187 UK stores. The company has already agreed multi megawatt deals via SEEIT and Kingspan in a bid to generate 10 per cent of total international consumption onsite.

The firm intends to power global operations renewably by 2030, though faster in the UK and Europe.
