Fractal grid: Ferris joins blockchain energy firm Electron

Jon Ferris has left Utilitywise to join blockchain energy firm Electron.

Ferris joined EIC 12 years ago, which Utilitywise acquired in 2013. Initially a risk management consultant, Ferris rose through the ranks to become strategy director at the third party intermediary.

He left the company at the end of last week and assumes the same title at Electron.

Awarded almost £640,000 in government funding last month to scale its prototype blockchain trading platform for demand-side response, Electron is building out both its technology and its management team. Former Npower CEO Paul Massara joined as a director in April.

Electron says its platform uses blockchain technology to allow multiple parties to co-ordinate and share the value of a single consumer’s action. If adopted at scale, the firm believes this will maximise the overall value and liquidity of the flexibility market, while enabling individual purchasers of flexibility to share costs.

The company refers to this concept as “collaborative trading”.

Ferris said he was “very excited to join Electron at such a time of change in the energy industry”.

Utilitywise meanwhile, posts full year financial results next month.
