NetApp, the $5.5 billion dollar integrated cloud data storage solution provider, has chosen Piller Power Systems technology for its new campus in Bangalore, India. The new 14 acre (5.7 hectare) campus is a substantial expansion of NetApp’s footprint in India and NetApp’s largest in the world in terms of engineering strength. Out of its eight such sites, seven are in North America.
NetApp India currently employs around 2,000 people in India, the new campus has the capacity to accommodate 3,500 people. The company employs around 10,000 people globally. A turnkey hybrid medium voltage UPS system comprising four sets of Piller’s highly efficient diesel coupled rotary UPS were supplied for Phase one of the development by the German company’s Indian subsidiary, Piller Power India Pvt. Ltd. A further four units are expected for Phase two of the development in 2018.
Configured to Piller’s Isolated Parallel Bus (IP-Bus) system, multiple modules are connected in parallel to provide extremely highly reliable fault-tolerant and concurrently maintainable solutions that deliver exceptional high power security along with low lifetime operational costs. Piller technology was selected due to the company’s track record providing reliable critical power to modern IT infrastructure applications and for its ability to handle India’s erratic grid conditions.
George Kurian NetApp’s CEO and President said at the launch: “Here in Bangalore, we’re announcing our start-up accelerator, so we can bring expertise and infrastructure to enable a range of storage and data management capabilities for the digital era.” Kurian went to elaborate that a global shared services centre, which encompasses a range of business process systems, IT back-office functions and various other capabilities, will be housed on this campus.
The IDC (International Data Corporation) reports that the market share on Flash storage has grown to 28 percent in India.
