Charging infrastructure specialist Zest has opened a new ultra-rapid EV charging facility close to Bolton ring road.

Located on the site of a previously closed council car park on St George’s Road, the facility provides twelve charging bays running at speeds up to 160kW.

The development is part of Zest’s nationwide rollout of EV infrastructure close to residential and business areas, and the company has a track record of regenerating derelict land in areas with limited charging infrastructure, and where many households do not have access to off-street parking.

This new facility also features InPost Lockers offering secure parcel collection and returns for residents and businesses.

Available 24/7, the lockers eliminate missed deliveries, reduce unnecessary journeys and further support sustainability.

Robin Heap, CEO at Zest, said, “To help people migrate to electric vehicles, charging infrastructure should be convenient, abundant and integrated into their everyday lives.

“Our new ultra-rapid charging facility in Bolton regenerates a previously underused site and creates a valuable local amenity for many years to come.”

Councillor Richard Silvester, Executive Cabinet Member for Climate Change & Environment, at Bolton Council, said, “Bolton Council’s climate change strategy, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2030, is strengthened by initiatives like this, and by providing more accessible EV options, we’re helping create a cleaner, greener Bolton.”

Dwayne Lowe, Director of Planning & Highways at Bolton Council, said, “Zest’s investment in Bolton and the introduction of this ultra-rapid charging facility marks a major step in making EV ownership more practical for residents.

“With reliable, high-speed charging in a prime location, more drivers will feel confident making the switch to electric.”
