Dutch company Hanab is taking the next step in its UK growth strategy with the acquisition of Substation Engineering Services (SES). Following the earlier acquisitions of Green Frog Connect and AMS Trenchless, SES further strengthens Hanab’s position in the UK energy infrastructure market and supports the continued development of an integrated platform for the development, delivery and maintenance of critical energy infrastructure.
SES adds specialist substation expertise to Hanab’s UK operations. By combining the knowledge and experience of SES, Green Frog Connect and Hanab Energy Solutions, Hanab will be able to support clients across an increasingly broad part of the value chain, from engineering and project management through to installation, commissioning and maintenance.
Together, the businesses create a strong platform to support the significant investment required in the coming years to expand, reinforce and decarbonise the UK electricity network, at both distribution and transmission level.
Guus de Vries, COO Energy & Water at Hanab, “Green Frog Connect has given us a strong foundation in EPC projects, while SES adds specialist expertise and experience in substation installation and commissioning. By bringing these capabilities together, we can support clients across a broader range of activities, from design and delivery through to commissioning and maintenance. In doing so, we are building an organisation that can add value throughout the entire lifecycle of energy infrastructure projects.”
Ambitious growth plans for the UK
The acquisition of SES forms part of Hanab’s broader international growth strategy. Alongside its strong position in the Netherlands and activities in Belgium and Germany, the UK is increasingly developing into a strategic growth market for the Group. Hanab intends to further expand its position in the UK in the coming years, through both organic growth and targeted acquisitions. The focus will be on businesses and specialist capabilities that align with the significant investment required in energy, water and other critical infrastructure.
Stanley Maas, CEO of Hanab, “With Green Frog Connect, AMS Trenchless and now SES, we are deliberately building a strong and future-proof position in the UK. We see the UK as one of our key growth markets for the coming years. The scale of investment in energy infrastructure is significant and requires organisations that can combine specialist expertise, scale and strong delivery capabilities.
“Our ambition extends beyond energy. Alongside further strengthening our position in the UK energy market, we are actively exploring opportunities in the water sector. With our expertise in energy, water and specialist underground infrastructure, we aim to make a substantial contribution to the renewal and decarbonisation of the UK’s infrastructure.”
Continuity and entrepreneurship
SES will continue to operate under its existing name and retain a high degree of autonomy. The current management team will remain responsible for the day-to-day running of the business. This will preserve SES’s entrepreneurial culture, specialist expertise and strong relationships with clients and partners, while enabling the company to benefit from Hanab’s scale, expertise and investment capacity.
