Alexander Dennis has announced that its next-generation Enviro400EV “crowd-shifter” is to undergo trials with Tower Transit’s LibertyBus operation in Jersey.

The Enviro400EV has made its way to Jersey to complete a trial over the next two weeks to evaluate the feasibility of running EVs on route 15 from the island’s airport to St Helier.

LibertyBus currently operates eleven double-deckers, six of these being Alexander Dennis Enviro400 diesels.

Tower Transit recently retained the contract to operate Jersey’s bus network on behalf of the island’s government until 2035. The agreement includes continued investment in fleet replacement, including zero-emission vehicles.

The new Enviro400EV is a versatile battery-electric double decker bus that provides for up to 73 seated passengers in the specification evaluated by LibertyBus.

Its heavy-duty drive system and 472kWh battery provide ample power and range, contributing to 97% grid-to-wheel efficiency that keeps operating costs to a minimum.

Shaun Millar, National Account Manager for Alexander Dennis added, “We are pleased to have made the next-generation Enviro400EV available for this trial by Tower Transit in Jersey.

“We expect that “the crowd-shifter” will perform well with its comfortable passenger experience and outstanding energy efficiency. We are really looking forward to the feedback from Tower Transit which will help us to further refine our Enviro400EV.”

“We are excited about trialling this electric double decker bus on the island.”

Kevin Hart, Tower Transit Regional Director said, “We are excited about trialling this electric double decker bus on the island.

“Once we have concluded out of service trials, we will be operating the bus on our route 15 during the week, and we would love to hear the feedback from our customers.”
