Michelin Development supports jobs in renewable energy

A grant from Michelin Development is helping a renewable energy company in Dundee to double its workforce in the next 18 months.

Family-run Coast Renewable Services (CRS) specialises in wind-based energy projects and is carving out a niche as a specialist supplier across the UK and Europe.

Founded by Mark Robson in 2013 – who was inspired to launch the business after seeing wind farm technology in Denmark – CRS is now putting in place the infrastructure for sustainable growth into markets including Germany, Ireland, the Far East and Australia.

A two-year funding commitment from Michelin Development will support job creation at CRS, enabling the company to double its current workforce.

This includes opportunities for wind technicians and key roles up to director level, helping drive expansion into new markets.

Brian Cairns, of Michelin Development in Dundee, said, “This is exactly the type of business we were set up to help.

“CRS has provided more than 12 years of reliable service, growing organically largely by word of mouth, and has an outstanding reputation within the wind industry.

“Their business principles align with Michelin’s ‘People, Profit and Planet’ strategy and it is exciting to see a success story develop in Dundee in the renewable energy sector.

CRS offers turnkey wind solutions across the UK from site set up, to installation and maintenance of wind turbines.

Based in Ainslie Street in the West Pitkerro Estate, CRS has delivered some of the largest onshore wind farms in the UK.

As part of a commitment to safety and training CRS has also launched its own GWO (Global Wind Organisation) Training Academy, offering a variety of GWO approved courses for wind personnel, based at the Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc.

Managing Director Mark Robson said, “The support of Michelin Development has given us the funding to create new roles, which are vital to allow our business to enter new and expanding markets in the offshore industry and offers further opportunities for us to grow in the future.

“The process to apply for funding was straightforward and the advice and support Michelin Development offered was invaluable.”

Michelin Development is backed by a steering committee made up of organisations including Michelin, Angus Council, Business Gateway, Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce, Dundee City Council, Scottish Enterprise and the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Brian Cairns added, “Michelin Development is here to support employment in and around the city by helping high-potential firms and entrepreneurs turn their ambitions into reality.

“Manufacturing or service sector (B2B) businesses with fewer than 250 employees may be eligible for support.

“We welcome applications that are supported with a viable business plan and relevant financial accounting information, who can show the potential to create high-quality jobs.”
