SSE Enterprise is stepping up its push to bring industrial and commercial firms into flexibility markets and ancillary services with the formal launch of its demand-side flexibility business, SSE Enhance.
The supplier’s enterprise division is also hoping to attract local authorities with flexible load and generation assets to its aggregation business, which uses Smarter Grid Solutions’ flexibility platform.
Suppliers have been pushing into distributed and flexible energy aggregation for several years, some with more success than others.
Launching an aggregation, optimisation and trading platform brings SSE into that arena. It means “we can offer the full solution – funding, deployment, management and now optimisation [of distributed assets]” said SSE Enterprise director of strategy & digital services, Stephen Stead.
Glasgow-based Smarter Grid Solutions claims some 1.3GW of renewable and distributed generation and storage is controlled by its platform in the UK and internationally. The firm is working with SSE on the InnovateUK-funded Peterborough Integrated Renewables Infrastructure flexibility project.
Brendan,
Sport in Desford (SiD) is local community sport provider and a Registered Charity. SiD is also a small net generator of solar electricity (41MWh p.a.) and would like to gain access to the flexibility market. Would SSE Enhance be able to work with small operators such as ourselves? if so would you be able to put me in touch with the relevant parties?

Hi Jim,
Have you contacted any of the green commercial energy suppliers who are keen to work with small scale generators?
If not I could help steer you in the right direction
