When Doncaster Racecourse needed an efficient and space-saving solution to replace its existing boilers that had reached the end of their operational life, a new Upton floor-standing modular boiler system from Hamworthy Heating was specified to efficiently satisfy the high demands placed on the venue, with minimum disruption to the busy racecourse.
Following a site visit to Doncaster Racecourse to evaluate the venues requirements, Essex-based contractor ProRite turned to its local Hamworthy Heating representative, who proposed installing three vertically stacked Upton UF900-3 floor standing condensing boilers and a low loss header kit with a combined air and dirt separator.
Upton modular boilers from Hamworthy Heating feature an aluminium heat exchanger and can deliver 1MW output from less than 1m² of floor space. Readily available and delivered fully assembled to site for easy installation, this design makes optimal use of space in the plant room at Doncaster Racecourse. Additionally, its lightweight construction means that there was no need for costly cranes or heavy lifting equipment during installation, which helped to reduce costs and minimise disruption at this popular venue.
Available in 18 different models with outputs ranging from 100 to 1050kW, the selected Upton floor-standing modular boiler system at Doncaster Racecourse delivers an output of 900kW and a gross seasonal efficiency of up to 97% gross seasonal efficiency. A modulation of 5:1 per module (increasing to 15:1 in a three-high vertical stack) also allows closer output control. As a result, Doncaster Racecourse can expect to benefit from increased future savings on fuel bills and reduced emissions.
To ensure the new Upton modular boiler system was set up to achieve maximum efficiency, commissioning was also carried out by one of Hamworthy Heating’s approved service engineers.
Installed by ProRite, which specialises in all aspects of mechanical engineering and building services, ProRite Ltd has built a reputation within the building services industry by delivering design, installation and maintenance Services to both public and private sector markets. Based in Billericay, Essex, the company has a long and well-established relationship with Hamworthy Heating.
“We’ve been working with Hamworthy for over ten years and have always received a great service. We chose the Upton for this particular project because of its compact, vertically stacked design. This decision enabled us to overcome tight space restrictions in the plant room at Doncaster Racecourse. Moreover, as the site had no existing heating, Hamworthy was able to provide us with a prompt and efficient service”, comments Alfie Paradise, Operations Director at ProRite.
Following the successful installation, the plant room at Doncaster Racecourse now benefits from increased floor space, which makes it easier to access equipment. The venue is now benefitting from a modern, reliable, and efficient heating system.
