Energy infrastructure business, YLEM Group has today launched a new specialist operations and maintenance (O&M) company to support gas generation assets across the UK.
YLEM Power will provide critical 24/7 O&M support to assets spanning combined heat and power and biogas through to landfill gas and anaerobic digestion facilities which convert organic waste into renewable energy. It will also play a key role in supporting peaking power plants, which generate electricity at speed to fill the void left by other energy sources and meet increasing spikes in national grid demand.
Serving energy asset owners and investors, YLEM Power will provide the independent expert consultancy, a team of more than 35 field-based engineers and £1m of strategic spare parts and equipment.
Unlike many traditional O&M providers, YLEM Power’s expertise extends beyond the gas engine. Its teams support the entire generator set and wider generating plant, including engines, alternators, controls, HV and LV systems and other balance of plant equipment – reducing the need for multiple contractors and resolving more issues through a single engineering team.
As YLEM Group already owns and operates several gas generation assets throughout the UK, YLEM Power aims to combine engineering expertise with an understanding of the commercial impact of availability, downtime, maintenance decisions and lifecycle costs. By combining this knowledge, operational data and commercial insight, it’s able to help asset owners better understand performance, protect uptime and maximise long-term asset value.
The business will underpin the breadth of services already provided by the YLEM Group, which includes battery energy storage developer, Root-Power, commercial solar energy specialists Power Zero and YLEM Energy, which will continue to focus on delivering energy generation solutions.
Ian Gadsby, chief executive officer for YLEM Group said, “Launching YLEM Power completes over 12 months of restructuring across the group. We feel it both provides greater clarity around our service offering to customers and maximises significant business growth opportunities within the O&M sector.
“Our experience in this space and team of specialist engineers across the UK, means we’re already equipped with the people, parts and expertise to serve the market and scale the business at pace. We also think like asset owners because we own and operate gas generation assets, meaning we understand the commercial consequences of every single decision.”
With the government’s Clean Power 2030 action plan expecting around 35GW of unabated gas reserve capacity to be maintained by 2030, YLEM Power will ensure power plants remain ready to perform when required and provide strategic back-up to the national grid.
Ian, added, “With peaking power plants so critical to energy infrastructure, the government’s Clean Power 2030 ambitions and the future stability of the national grid, we’re looking forward to being at the forefront of helping energy asset owners drive long term commercial success.”
