Powys County Council has installed electric vehicle charge points at another five carparks it manages, increasing its network to 13 sites.
The new charging points, located at car parks in Crickhowell, Hay-on-Wye, Knighton, Rhayader and Ystradgynlais, were installed using a grant from the Welsh Government’s ultra-low emissions transformation fund.
The ‘fast’ charge points installed at all 13 locations are capable of fully charging an EV in three to four hours, dependent on the type and number of vehicles plugged in at the time.
They are all part of the Dragon Charging network which can be used via the Dragon Charging app or their RFID cards.Â
Guest pay-as-you go accounts are also available.
Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys said, “We are lucky enough to have had electric charging points in a number of our council car parks for a while now and are grateful to the previous administration for their work to ensure that the funding for this project was secured.
“The charging facilities are proving to be a great asset to have in our rural, widespread county. Â
“With the addition of five more locations in the next exciting phase in our planned Powys-wide network of electric charging points there will be a boost to our tourism economy as well.
“This project is also an important step for helping both the people of Powys and our visitors make more sustainable lifestyle choices and help us achieve our ambition to reduce the council’s carbon emissions to net zero by 2030.”
