Europcar and Octopus partner for EV rental charging

Europcar has entered a collaboration with Octopus Electroverse to provide its rental customers with access to more than a million charge points around Europe.

Under the agreement, the Octopus Electroverse app will serve as the charging solution for the firm’s EV rental customers.

With more than 500 new chargers added to Electroverse’s network each day, drivers will have access to brands including Ionity, Osprey and Instavolt.

The partnership is designed to make EV driving more accessible for rental customers, making it easy for drivers to charge up without the need to use multiple apps or accounts.

Drivers can find chargers, plan routes in real time, and start charging via the app or with an RFID card.

Europcar EV customers using the Electroverse app also gain access to offers, including ‘Plunge Pricing’ that offers discounts when renewable energy is plentiful and demand is low.

Sarah Clarke, senior consumer marketing manager, Europcar Mobility Group UK, said, “By giving access to a single charging platform that covers the majority of the UK network, we remove the need for multiple apps and logins.

“Drivers can plan their journey, find the right charger and manage payments all in one place. It will help make charging a rental EV quicker and simpler as it does not require drivers to sign up with every charging provider they need to use on a journey.

“The route planning feature is particularly powerful, helping to reduce range anxiety by showing available chargers at the most efficient points along a planned journey.

“When combined with the Europcar EV Guide, this delivers genuine value to our customers and supports a positive first EV experience.”
