Char.gy has been awarded a contract by Isle of Wight Council to deliver an expansion of public EV charging infrastructure, supporting the transition to cleaner, more accessible transport across the Island.
As part of the Government-backed Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) programme, Char.gy will design, install and maintain a network of more than 1,500 public EV chargers.
The rollout is supported by £1.625 million in LEVI funding, helping accelerate the availability of on-street EV charging for local communities.
This long-term partnership will make it easier for residents to charge EVs near home, particularly those without access to off-street parking.
Char.gy’s approach focuses on delivering reliable, accessible charging at scale, ensuring more drivers can confidently switch to EVs without relying on private driveways.
Councillor Julie Jones-Evans, Chair of the Economy, Regeneration, Transport and Infrastructure Committee, said, “Installing over 1,500 new charge points will make a tangible difference for residents right across our communities, at no cost to the local budget.
“This project is a brilliant example of how we can deliver practical, forward-looking change while investing in the future of our towns and the people who live here.”
John Lewis, CEO of Char.gy, said, “Partnering with Isle of Wight Council marks an important step forward in delivering fair, accessible EV charging infrastructure at scale.
“At Char.gy, our focus is on enabling every resident, especially those without off-street parking, to make the switch to electric vehicles with confidence.
“This rollout will not only support cleaner transport but also create lasting social and environmental value for the Island.”
