Motorway service operator Extra MSA has revealed plans for a fourfold increase in the number of its EV charging facilities before the end of 2026.
The business will expand from its current 60 ultra-rapid 350kW charge points to 234 across its eight sites in England due to its continued partnership with EV rapid charging specialist Ionity.
To meet its 2026 target, Extra is also looking to significantly increase its EV facilities across its Leeds Skelton Lake Services (M1 J45), Blackburn Services (M65 J4) and Baldock Services (A1(M) J10) sites by the end of the year.
They will join the company’s newly expanded EV capabilities at Cambridge Services (A14(M11), J24), Cobham Services (M25 J9/10) and Peterborough Services (A1(M) J17 & A605), with each site now having 24 chargers.
Extra MSA has a collaboration with green energy provider Octopus that means all energy powering its ultra-rapid chargers is 100% renewable.
Tom Dobson, CEO at Extra MSA Group, said, “Ionity’s 350kW ultra-fast charge points are some of the highest-powered and most efficient facilities available, reflecting our commitment to investing in the best possible customer experience.
“We know that we have a part to play in driving forward the net zero agenda, so we’re determined to expand our EV charging provision by almost 300% by end of 2026 and build on our legacy as the UK’s leading motorway service provider for our EV commitment.”
Andreas Atkins, country manager UK & Ireland at Ionity, said, “Increasing 350kW chargers across England to meet the 2026 target shows the demand for more sustainable travel and aligns with our commitment to more than double the number of publicly available stations and charging points in the UK for the third consecutive year.”
