Fastned, the European fast-charging company, has opened a new ultra-rapid charging hub for EV drivers and tourists on Scotland’s west coast.

The site in Greenock, west of Glasgow, features an initial four 400kW charging bays, with the capacity to expand to eight.

It is located off Greenock’s Main Street in a prime location for anyone travelling from Glasgow and along Scotland’s west coast, and fills a vital gap in ultra-rapid charging within the area.

The facility is supplied with 100% renewable energy, enabling drivers with compatible cars to add up to 100 miles of range in five minutes.

A range of payment methods is available and the new hub is covered by Fastned’s solar canopy, which, along with keeping drivers dry while charging, helps the site stand out from the road.

This is the company’s third charging hub in the west of the country and fifth in Scotland overall.

Last October, Fastned opened a new electric vehicle charging hub with eight chargers off Junction 24 of the M8, in the South West of Glasgow.

Drivers charging at the Junction 24 hub have access to a wide range of amenities, including a Greggs and Starbucks.

Tom Hurst, UK country director at Fastned, said that since 2012, the company has been at the forefront of European charging infrastructure development, building and operating a growing network of fast charging stations.

He added, “We’re delighted to open our fifth charging hub in Scotland, and provide much-needed charging in an area with a low number of ultra-rapid chargers. Watch this space as there’s much more to come.”
