Moto Hospitality appointed renewable energy specialist Geo Green Power to install solar panels at an initial 13 of their motorway service stations throughout the UK, with an estimated output of 1,240MWh a year.
Work has finished on the £1.1m contract, to install over 1,464kWp of solar PV, advancing Moto’s green credentials, reducing energy costs and taking them a step closer to carbon neutrality.
Solar panels have now been installed at Winchester North, Wetherby, Grantham, Pease Pottage, Donnington Park, Stirling, Trowell, Woolley Edge Southbound, Thurrock, Southwaite, Woolley Edge Northbound, Cherwell Valley and Rugby – which has the largest install of 402kWp.
Moto has set ambitious targets to reduce its carbon footprint, with renewable energy playing a key role. Each installation by Geo Green Power is having an immediate impact on emissions, delivering a total reduction of 311 tonnes of CO2 annually.
In addition to the UK-wide solar installations, Moto is actively promoting sustainable travel by investing in EV charging stations, most recently hitting a milestone of installing 1,000 charging sites across its network of service stations and generating energy onsite to access additional capacity beyond the grid.
Geo Green Power, who won the work through a competitive tendering process involving 12 other companies, have just completed work on their final location, Cherwell.
The renewable energy specialists installed systems ranging in size from 35kWp to 400kWp and will now provide a 5-year maintenance contract as part of the deal.
Jess Lockwood, Property Director at Moto Hospitality, said, “At Moto, we recognise the critical role we play in driving the UK towards a more environmentally friendly and net zero future. A key element of this is helping the motorway network embrace green energy and renewable solutions. That’s why we chose Geo Green Power – a knowledgeable and trusted expert in the field – to carry out this solar installation across 13 of our sites. We’re excited to see the positive impact these systems will have and have already started expanding them to more of our locations starting with Exeter and Sawtry.”
James Cunningham, Managing Director of Geo Green Power, added, “We’re delighted to be working with Moto Hospitality on their journey to net zero. Our mission extends beyond just helping Moto reduce their emissions; we aim to inspire other businesses to evaluate their environmental footprint and adopt sustainable practices to create a greener future for everyone.”
