Kirby Group Engineering, a provider of mechanical and electrical engineering and contracting services across Europe, has delivered a grid connection for the 18MW Gemini Data Centre, a new and significant addition to Dublin’s data centre landscape.

Kirby delivered the full civil and electrical turnkey scope for this transmission connection; a contestable 110kV substation c/w Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), 110kV underground grid line circuits, 110kV/10kV customer transformers and 10kV customer substation.

As Kirby was involved from an early stage of the project, the company also prepared and submitted planning permission for the substation buildings and associated equipment (including confirmation of exempted development for 110 kV underground cable circuits) and fire certificates. At completion stage Kirby provided completion certificate for both the 110kV GIS building and the MV building per building regulations (BCAR).

Kirby was responsible for all aspects of the project delivery  from a design and construction perspective, including the role of PSDP/ PSCS while managing the interface between  project stakeholders including the Employer, Data Centre Contractor, Project Manager, Engineer, Grid Operator, Utility Provider and Health and Safety Authority.

Kirby has successfully delivered M&E systems for projects in the data centre sector including Interxion, Equinix Telecity, IBM, Ericsson and Dell.
