Landis+Gyr and Vodafone strike IoT deal

Metering giant Landis+Gyr and Vodafone have struck a deal so that the Swiss firm’s utility customers can use the telco’s IoT services and access multiple carrier networks without the hassle of needing to manage multiple subscription contracts.

That means they can use 400 networks in 180 countries with a single subscriber identity profile and deploy and manage cellular smart grid devices – such as sensors, meters and other connected network assets – more quickly and easily.

Landis+Gyr CEO Werner Lieberherr said the agreement “will enable our customers, energy consumers and entire communities to manage energy in a more informed way, making a positive impact on the environment.”

Vodafone Business CEO, Vinod Kumar, said “IoT is key to the digitalisation of the utilities sector. Connecting assets will help manage energy better and support the safe integration of renewable energy sources into power grids, helping to reduce carbon footprints.”
