NewPower, sister company to zero-emission bus manufacturer Wrightbus, is working with sustainable haulage specialist Darcica Logistics on a diesel-to-electric truck conversion.

Currently, more than 30% of Oxfordshire-based Darcica’s fleet of more than 25 commercial vehicles is electric, carrying out zero-emission deliveries across the county and beyond.

A conversion, which takes about eight days, costs around £120,000 and retains the original body and any special equipment.

Meanwhile, a full refurbishment with in-house paint and graphics is available at NewPower’s facility in Bicester, which can carry out 25 conversions a month.

By converting existing trucks rather than replacing them entirely, repowering offers operators a significantly lower-cost route to zero-emission operations while reducing waste and extending vehicle lifecycles.

NewPower said its aim is to help accelerate the decarbonisation of commercial vehicle fleets by replacing diesel powertrains with battery-electric technology.

James Bishop, Programme Director at NewPower, added, “We’re seeing increasing interest from operators who want to decarbonise but also make smart financial and operational decisions.

“Darcica Logistics has demonstrated real leadership in sustainable transport, and this order underlines the growing role that repowering can play alongside new electric vehicles in helping fleets accelerate their transition to net zero.”

Anthony Tattersall, Co-Founder of Darcica Logistics, said, “Our commitment has always been to find practical ways to reduce emissions without compromising service for our customers.

“Repowering is an exciting opportunity because it enables operators to retain existing vehicles while transitioning to zero-emission transport.

“As we continue expanding our electric fleet, we’re keen to explore every viable technology that supports a more sustainable future for logistics.”
