Rapid growth: Engenie builds out retail park EV charging network

Electric vehicle charging network Engenie said it will complete installation of 17 rapid chargepoints for retail property firm Brookhouse Group by the year end.

The firms says the partnership opens up destination charging to customers visiting major retail brands such as Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Argos, Next, Aldi, and M&S millions of times per year.

Under a funded model, Engenie has installed 13 rapid chargers at seven sites to date, with the remainder to follow.

Brookhouse property director, Mike Nuttall, said the group is installing chargers because both customers and tenants expect it to provide them. Meanwhile it hopes to enable increased footfall and dwell time as a result.

Engenie business development director, Patrick Sherriff, said retailers were smart to “grab the grid” before competitors, ensuring they have the capacity to install rapid chargers as grid constraints increase.

He suggested the retail park sector was “poised for rapid growth” as chargers become “an essential offering”.
