SME energy demand drives 50,000th live site milestone for UK energy supplier

British energy supplier Valda Energy, focused exclusively on small and medium-sized businesses, has surpassed 50,000 live meter points, serving more than 40,000 businesses across sectors like beauty, retail, and healthcare.

Over the past four years, Valda has consistently met its Ofgem smart installation targets, with 82% of its portfolio now smart-capable, which is around 40,000 meters.

Valda’s milestone shows continued SME demand from those seeking greater cost control and energy use visibility, particularly through smart energy solutions. It’s a tough economy for SMEs; there’s no question about that. In 2025, 2 in 5 (42%) SMEs delayed purchasing new equipment, and nearly a quarter (22%) postponed business expansion and hiring new staff.

Tight margins and rising cost pressures like these are no doubt influencing small business owners’ awareness of energy consumption and tariffs.

Daljeet Kaur, Chief Operating Officer at Valda Energy, explains, “As we celebrate this important milestone, we’re proud to support 40,000 businesses across the UK with their energy needs. In a market where energy can feel complex and fast-moving, SMEs continue to look for trusted partners who provide clarity, confidence and control over costs.

“Over the past year, we’ve seen growing numbers of businesses adopt smart meters to gain greater visibility and insight into their energy use. Our focus is on making it simple and empowering for small business owners, helping them understand their options and make informed decisions with confidence. We’re incredibly proud to be a trusted energy partner to thousands of SMEs and to support them every step of the way.”

“From the start, our goal has been to be the supplier of choice for businesses, one that truly understands the unique needs of SMEs and builds solutions that help them thrive.”

Headquartered in Bicester, Valda Energy now employs more than 125 people and added 24 new roles in the past year, 20 of them locally. Over the same period, the company delivered 30 internal promotions and supported eight apprentices through to qualification in their apprenticeship scheme, with a further five in training.
