Challenger black cab accessor & corporate travel provider Gett has set a destination of all its private-hire rides in London being ‘zero-emission capable’ by 2027, three years ahead of the Mayor’s target to make the city Net Zero.

Close to 60% of all journeys booked through Gett’s app are currently completed by an electric or hybrid vehicle. That share has almost doubled in four years, it calculates. Black cabs in particular are showing a rapid transition to dropping diesel and opting for cleaner carriage.

Speeding the transition to greener rides, Gett offers drivers on its app a number of incentives, including charging discounts, reduced prices on home charging equipment, as well as EV rental, warranty and service discounts.

The platform operator say all current rides it provides across the UK are carbon neutral. Via its partnership with EcoAct, Gett offsets 100% of CO2 emissions resulting from the use of black cabs and PHVs. Last year the service provider offset 466 tonnes of CO2 towards two EcoAct projects. the Maranhão wind power project in Brazil and the Sujawal mangroves in Pakistan.

Gett CEO Matteo De Renzi commented: “Urban transport plays a pivotal part in the energy transition. UK cities are among the global leaders in EV adoption and we are proud to launch this formal commitment to facilitating emission-free travel for hundreds of thousands of our riders.”

Gett UK also donates 2p for every ride to Trees for Cities, a charity focused on bringing trees and plants to local communities.
