Camden Council opts for 570 more Trojan charge points

Camden Council has awarded a contract to EV charge point operator Trojan Energy to install more than 570 charge points in the borough.

A total of 70 chargers will be installed initially in July 2025, with the rest – subject to finding suitable locations – expected to be completed in 2026.

Trojan Energy previously deployed charge points in Camden in 2022 as part of an Innovate UK trial.

The flat and flush charge point design leaves the pavement clear of clutter and fully accessible to other pavement users when not in use.

Customers use an adaptor which they keep in their possession to connect their vehicle to the charge point at the roadside.

These points are linked via underground cables to cabinets.

One key advantage of the Trojan Energy design is that the charge points are deployed in a cluster, increasing the chances of EV drivers finding a free charging bay.

The council has secured government funding from the On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS) to support the project.

Ian Mackenzie, CEO of Trojan Energy, said, “Trojan Energy’s mission has always been to ensure everyone benefits from the energy transition.

“After the huge success of our trials in 2022, we are delighted to now be able to support the Borough’s ambition towards sustainable travel, the switch to EVs, and to help residents who are keen to see many more of our charge points rolled out across Camden.”

Councillor Adam Harrison, Cabinet Member for Planning and a Sustainable Camden said, “Our rollout of hundreds more EV charge points will help us meet the objectives we set out in Camden’s Transport Strategy, which aims to deliver a sustainable transport system and streets that are accessible and inclusive for all.”
