Echion Technologies, this week announced the commercial launch of a new range of fast-charging, high power battery products, powered by its proprietary XNO technology, at Battery Japan in collaboration with manufacturing partner GUS Technology.

The new battery range, manufactured by GUS Technology at its Zhongli facility in Taiwan, marks a significant milestone in the commercialisation of XNO and builds on GUS’ product portfolio which targets high-power industrial and infrastructure applications.

The new product line boasts cell performances which enable 80% charging in 5 minutes, fast charging at –30°C, and enhanced safety for demanding applications. High-power cycling at 5C/5C and 25°C (20-80% SoC) shows only 2% capacity loss after 10,000 cycles, supporting an estimated cycle life beyond 50,000 cycles. This makes it well suited for applications such as mass transportation, construction, mining vehicles, robotics, and grid interactive uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.

Compared with lithium titanate (LTO), a chemistry commonly used in high-power battery applications, XNO offers more than 50% higher energy density while maintaining fast-charging capability, long cycle life, and safety characteristics.

GUS Technology is now commercialising several battery cell, modules and pack formats based on XNO. These include 43Ah and 60Ah cells, VDA355 modules designed for industrial system integration and a compact 5Ah cell capable of delivering up to 100A of power (20C), enabling high peak power output in smaller form factors.

“XNO technology was developed to deliver fast-charging and high-power performance without the energy density and lifetime limitations seen in traditional high-power lithium-ion chemistries,” said Dr Jean de La Verpilliere, CEO at Echion Technologies. “We have been impressed with GUS’ capabilities and are excited to see XNO incorporated into their product offering.”
