Enfield Council has announced the installation of 1,000 new on-street EV chargers across the borough which will be delivered by charge point operator Char.gy.
These low-cost new charge points will be installed directly into streetlight columns, and be designed for long-stay and overnight charging close to home.
This will particularly benefit residents who do not have access to at-home charging, helping to remove one of the biggest barriers to EV ownership.
In addition, new standalone EV chargers will be installed at five sites in the borough, replacing older equipment.
This initiative forms part of Enfield Council’s wider programme which aims to ensure that every resident has shared access to an EV charger within a five-minute walk of their home.
Char.gy currently operates nearly 4,000 public charge points across the UK and specialises in serving areas with limited access to off-street parking.
Its approach focuses on delivering reliable, accessible charging at scale, ensuring more drivers can confidently switch to EVs without relying on private driveways.
Councillor Maria Alexandrou, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, said, “One of my priorities is to speed up opportunities for electric vehicles charging in Enfield and finally, we have a significant offer for drivers.
“We know that access to convenient, affordable charging is key to helping residents make the switch to electric vehicles.
“By expanding our on-street charging network, we’re making EV ownership a realistic option for far more people.
“This is a major step forward in our ambition to support a more sustainable transport system in Enfield.”
