National Grid has launched a tender for reactive power in the Mersey region. The ESO said it is the first time embedded assets have been able to participate in a tender to solve a transmission voltage system need.
The system operator is offering one-year contracts commencing 1 April for those that can help address voltage issues by either absorbing reactive power. The minimum size for participating in the tender is 5 MVAr.
A longer-term tender is set to launch before the year end. National Grid has previously stated that it may offer contracts of up to ten years for reactive power provision.
