Social Energy lands week-ahead FFR contract via domestic batteries

Social Energy has won a contact to provide firm frequency response (FFR) to National Grid ESO via its weekly auction using entirely domestic batteries.

The energy supplier won its first FFR contract in 2018. The firm said it will provide 4MW of FFR capacity via the week-ahead pay as clear auction.

The company deploys batteries from the likes of Duracell to households with solar. It claims its approach can save up to 70 per cent on bills.

“It’s great to see a new approach in this market and a first contract made up entirely of domestic customers,” said David Spencer, new business manager at National Grid ESO.
