Ofwat has poached one of Ofgem’s senior leaders to be its new chief executive.
Rachel Fletcher, a board member and senior partner for consumers and competition, will join on 8 January after more than a decade with the energy regulator. She replaces Cathryn Ross who is heading to BT.
Ofwat chairman Jonson Cox said Fletcher was ne of a number of strong candidates for the role, but her “experience in regulation of network and customer focused businesses, alongside her clear leadership qualities, make her an ideal chief executive for Ofwat”.
He also thanked Ofgem seniors David Gray and Dermot Nolan “for allowing Rachel to join us so promptly.”
Fletcher joins ahead of the water sector’s upcoming price review and, with the sector increasingly competitive following the opening of the business water market, said “there is lots to do”.
“I look forward to building on the work done so far and working with the Ofwat team to make a positive and lasting difference for customers.”
