SSE has urged policymakers to ensure the general election results in a credible net zero delivery plan.
The utility calls for: raised ambition in offshore wind; for distribution network operators to be allowed to spend more money to enable electrification of heat and transport; for Ofgem’s regulatory remit to be carbon-focused; strong carbon pricing; and greater support for hydrogen and carbon capture and storage.
SSE warned Labour against renationalising energy networks, suggesting doing so will be “costly and disruptive” and could threaten the pace of decarbonisation, but said it will work with all parties.
